Chromium Picolinate in Olivaro: 0.7 mcg per mL, Measured Against the Studies
Each 1 mL dropper of Olivaro lists 0.7 mcg of chromium as chromium picolinate, 2% of the Daily Value. At the label maximum of 2 droppers you get 1.4 mcg a day. Blood sugar studies used 200 to 1,000 mcg a day and found mixed results (NIH ODS, Chromium). So the chromium in Olivaro is far below the studied range.

How much chromium is in Olivaro?
Olivaro lists 0.7 mcg of chromium per mL. That is the only ingredient on the bottle with its own printed amount.
The other 22 ingredients share a 200 mg proprietary blend with hidden single amounts. The Supplement Facts panel reads: "Chromium (as chromium picolinate) 0.7 mcg (2% DV)."

| 1 dropper a day | 0.7 mcg (2% DV) |
|---|---|
| 2 droppers a day (label maximum) | 1.4 mcg (4% DV) |
| Whole 30 mL bottle | 21 mcg |
| Form | Chromium picolinate |
A full bottle holds 21 mcg, less than one day's 25 mcg Adequate Intake for a woman aged 19 to 50 (NIH ODS, Chromium).
| Label name | Chromium (as chromium picolinate) |

The basics
What does chromium do in the body?
Chromium is a trace mineral that helps insulin move sugar from your blood into your cells (NIH ODS, Chromium).
Chromium picolinate is chromium bound to picolinic acid. It is the form used in most blood sugar trials. Chromium is counted in micrograms: 1,000 mcg equals 1 mg. Most people get enough from food.
Reference values
What are the Adequate Intake and Daily Value for chromium?
The Daily Value for chromium is 35 mcg. The Adequate Intake (AI) for adults ranges from 20 to 35 mcg a day, depending on age and sex (NIH ODS, Chromium).
| Group | AI per day | Olivaro, 1 dropper | Olivaro, 2 droppers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Men 19-50 | 35 mcg | 2% of AI | 4% of AI |
| Women 19-50 | 25 mcg | about 3% of AI | about 6% of AI |
| Men 51 and older | 30 mcg | about 2% of AI | about 5% of AI |
| Women 51 and older | 20 mcg | about 4% of AI | 7% of AI |
| Daily Value (label use) | 35 mcg | 2% DV | 4% DV |
The AI covers most healthy people. It is not a blood sugar target.
Dose vs research
How does 0.7 mcg compare with 200-1,000 mcg in studies?
It is about 140 to 1,400 times lower. Blood sugar trials mostly gave 200 to 1,000 mcg a day (NIH ODS, Chromium).
| Study dose per day | Times more than 2 droppers (1.4 mcg) | Droppers needed | Bottles needed per day |
|---|---|---|---|
| 200 mcg (low end) | about 143 | about 286 | about 9.5 |
| 500 mcg | about 357 | about 714 | about 24 |
| 1,000 mcg (high end) | about 714 | about 1,429 | about 48 |
The table only shows the size of the gap. It is not advice to take more, and the label says not to exceed 2 droppers.
What trials found
Does chromium help blood sugar?
The results are mixed. A 2019 review found slight drops in fasting glucose and A1C in people with diabetes, but the clinical value of those changes was unclear (NIH ODS, Chromium).
- People with diabetes
Small average drops in fasting glucose and A1C in some trials. Doses were 200 mcg or more.
- Healthy people
No apparent change in blood sugar (NIH ODS, Chromium).
- Expert groups
NCCIH rates the evidence for chromium in diabetes as weak (NCCIH, Diabetes and Dietary Supplements).
No study of Olivaro itself has been published. Chromium at 1.4 mcg a day is unlikely to repeat what 200 mcg or more did in trials. The full ingredient list puts it beside the other 22.

Order nowFood sources
Which foods have more chromium than a dropper of Olivaro?
Many everyday foods do. A cup of grape juice has 7.5 mcg, more than ten droppers (NIH ODS, Chromium).
| Food | Chromium | Same as Olivaro droppers |
|---|---|---|
| Grape juice, 1 cup | 7.5 mcg | about 11 |
| Whole wheat English muffin, 1 | 3.6 mcg | about 5 |
| Orange juice, 1 cup | 2.2 mcg | about 3 |
| Beef, 3 oz | 2.0 mcg | about 3 |
| Apple with peel, 1 medium | 1.4 mcg | 2 |
With diabetes, juice is a poor chromium source because it is a fast sugar. An apple or whole wheat bread fits a meal plan better.
Medicines
Which medicines can chromium interact with?
Three matter most: insulin, other diabetes medicines and levothyroxine. At study doses, chromium may add to diabetes drugs and raise the risk of lows (NIH ODS, Chromium).
Insulin
Chromium may raise insulin sensitivity, so lows become more likely.
Metformin and other pills
The effects may add up.
Levothyroxine
Taken together, chromium picolinate cut thyroid hormone absorption in a small study.
The blend also lists ginseng, gymnema and African mango. Talk to your doctor before you change any diabetes medicine, and never stop one because you started a supplement.
Below 70 mg/dL is low for most people. Watch for shakiness, sweating, hunger, confusion and a fast heartbeat (NIDDK, Low Blood Glucose). Our safety and interactions guide covers the full blend.
Safety
Is chromium picolinate safe at Olivaro's dose?
At 1.4 mcg a day, it is well within normal food intake. No official upper limit exists for chromium (NIH ODS, Chromium).
Isolated case reports link high-dose chromium supplements to kidney and liver problems, far above a dropper's amount (NIH ODS, Chromium).
What the label gets right
- The amount is printed.
- Picolinate is the form used in most trials.
- The dose is far below any level of concern.
Where it falls short
- 1.4 mcg a day is about 140 times below the lowest study dose.
- A bottle holds 21 mcg, less than one day's AI for many adults.
Our read: chromium is the most transparent line on the bottle, and also the clearest sign the doses are small. The Olivaro dosage guide explains why more droppers are not the answer.

Where do the other ingredients stand?
Gymnema is next. Each ingredient page uses the same layout: label line, research dose, cautions.
FAQ
Chromium in Olivaro: common questions
How much chromium is in Olivaro?
Each 1 mL dropper of Olivaro lists 0.7 mcg of chromium as chromium picolinate, which is 2% of the Daily Value. Two droppers, the label maximum, give 1.4 mcg a day, and a full bottle holds 21 mcg.
How much chromium should I take a day?
Most adults need 20 to 35 mcg a day, and food usually covers it. That is the Adequate Intake, set by age and sex. Blood sugar trials used 200 to 1,000 mcg, but you should ask your doctor before taking that much, especially with diabetes medicine.
Is 0.7 mcg of chromium enough to help blood sugar?
Probably not. Studies that saw small changes in people with diabetes used 200 mcg or more a day. Olivaro's 1.4 mcg at 2 droppers is about 140 times lower than the smallest of those doses, and no trial has tested Olivaro itself.
Can I take chromium with metformin?
Ask your doctor first. Chromium may add to the effect of metformin and other diabetes medicines, which could raise the risk of low blood sugar at study doses. Olivaro's dose is small, but the blend also lists ginseng, gymnema and African mango.
Does chromium picolinate affect thyroid medicine?
It can. A small study found that chromium picolinate taken together with levothyroxine lowered how much thyroid hormone the body absorbed. If you take levothyroxine, ask your pharmacist how far apart to space it from any supplement.
What foods are high in chromium?
Grape juice, whole wheat English muffins, brewer's yeast, beef, turkey, apples, green beans and bananas all contain chromium. One cup of grape juice has about 7.5 mcg, which is more than ten Olivaro droppers.
Is chromium picolinate safe?
At normal intakes, yes for most people. No upper limit has been set. Rare case reports link high-dose supplements to kidney or liver problems, so people with kidney or liver disease should ask a doctor before taking large amounts.
